It is no doubt Grayscale’s booming popularity as a mainstream investment has caused a lot of community hullabaloo lately. As such, I felt it was worth making a FAQ regarding the topic. I’m looking to update this as needed and of course am open to suggestions / adding any questions. The goal is simply to have a thread we can link to anyone with questions on Grayscaleand its products. Instead of explaining the same thing 3 times a day, shoot those posters over to this thread. My hope is that these questions are answered in a fairly simple and easy to understand manner. I think as the sub grows it will be a nice reference point for newcomers. Disclaimer: I do NOT work for Grayscale and as such am basing all these answers on information that can be found on their website / reports. (Grayscale’s official FAQ can be found here). I also do NOT have a finance degree, I do NOT have a Series 6 / 7 / 140-whatever, and I do NOT work with investment products for my day job. I have an accounting background and work within the finance world so I have the general ‘business’ knowledge to put it all together, but this is all info determined in my best faith effort as a layman. The point being is this --- it is possible I may explain something wrong or missed the technical terms, and if that occurs I am more than happy to update anything that can be proven incorrect Everything below will be in reference to ETHE but will apply to GBTC as well.If those two segregate in any way, I will note that accordingly.
ETHE is essentially a stock that intends to loosely track the price of ETH. It does so by having each ETHE be backed by a specific amount of ETH that is held on chain. Initially, the newly minted ETHE can only be purchased by institutions and accredited investors directly from Grayscale. Once a year has passed (6 months for GBTC) it can then be listed on the OTCQX Best Market exchange for secondary trading. Once listed on OTCQX, anyone investor can purchase at this point. Additional information on ETHE can be found here.
So ETHE is an ETF?
No. For technical reasons beyond my personal understandings it is not labeled an ETF. I know it all flows back to the “Securities Act Rule 144”, but due to my limited knowledge on SEC regulations I don’t want to misspeak past that. If anyone is more knowledgeable on the subject I am happy to input their answer here.
How long has ETHE existed?
ETHE was formed 12/14/2017. GBTC was formed 9/25/2013.
How is ETHE created?
The trust will issue shares to “Authorized Participants” in groups of 100 shares (called baskets). Authorized Participants are the only persons that may place orders to create these baskets and they do it on behalf of the investor. Source: Creation and Redemption of Shares section on page 39 of the “Grayscale Ethereum Trust Annual Report (2019)” – Located Here Note – The way their reports word this makes it sound like there is an army of authorizers doing the dirty work, but in reality there is only one Authorized Participant. At this moment the “Genesis” company is the sole Authorized Participant. Genesis is owned by the “Digital Currency Group, Inc.” which is the parent company of Grayscale as well. (And to really go down the rabbit hole it looks like DCG is the parent company of CoinDesk and is “backing 150+ companies across 30 countries, including Coinbase, Ripple, and Chainalysis.”) Source: Digital Currency Group, Inc. informational section on page 77 of the “Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (BTC) Form 10-K (2019)” – Located Here Source: Barry E. How does Grayscale acquire the ETH to collateralize the ETHE product?
An Investor may acquire ETHE by paying in cash or exchanging ETH already owned.
Cash: The investor pays the subscription amount in cash and the Authorized Participant will use that cash to purchase ETH.
ETH: The investor transfers the ETH to the Authorized Participant, which will contribute the ETH in-kind to the Trust.

Where does Grayscale store their ETH? Does it have a specific wallet address we can follow?
ETH is stored with Coinbase Custody Trust Company, LLC. I am unaware of any specific address or set of addresses that can be used to verify the ETH is actually there. As an aside - I would actually love to see if anyone knows more about this as it’s something that’s sort of peaked my interest after being asked about it… I find it doubtful we can find that however. Can ETHE be redeemed for ETH?
No, currently there is no way to give your shares of ETHE back to Grayscale to receive ETH back. The only method of getting back into ETH would be to sell your ETHE to someone else and then use those proceeds to buy ETH yourself. Source: Redemption Procedures on page 41 of the “Grayscale Ethereum Trust Annual Report (2019)” – Located Here
Why are they not redeeming shares?
I think the report summarizes it best:
Redemptions of Shares are currently not permitted and the Trust is unable to redeem Shares. Subject to receipt of regulatory approval from the SEC and approval by the Sponsor in its sole discretion, the Trust may in the future operate a redemption program. Because the Trust does not believe that the SEC would, at this time, entertain an application for the waiver of rules needed in order to operate an ongoing redemption program, the Trust currently has no intention of seeking regulatory approval from the SEC to operate an ongoing redemption program.

What is the fee structure?
ETHE has an annual fee of 2.5%. GBTC has an annual fee of 2.0%. Fees are paid by selling the underlying ETH / BTC collateralizing the asset. Source: ETHE’s informational page on Grayscale’s website - Located Here Source: Description of Trust on page 31 & 32 of the “Grayscale Ethereum Trust Annual Report (2019)” – Located Here
What is the ratio of ETH to ETHE?
At the time of posting (6/19/2020) each ETHE share is backed by .09391605 ETH. Each share of GBTC is backed by .00096038 BTC. ETHE & GBTC’s specific information page on Grayscale’s website updates the ratio daily – Located Here For a full historical look at this ratio, it can be found on the Grayscale home page on the upper right side if you go to Tax Documents > 2019 Tax Documents > Grayscale Ethereum Trust 2019 Tax Letter.
Why is the ratio not 1:1? Why is it always decreasing?
While I cannot say for certain why the initial distribution was not a 1:1 backing, it is more than likely to keep the price down and allow more investors a chance to purchase ETHE / GBTC. As noted above, fees are paid by selling off the ETH collateralizing ETHE. So this number will always be trending downward as time goes on. I keep hearing about how this is locked supply… explain?
As noted above, there is currently no redemption program for converting your ETHE back into ETH. This means that once an ETHE is issued, it will remain in circulation until a redemption program is formed --- something that doesn’t seem to be too urgent for the SEC or Grayscale at the moment. Tiny amounts will naturally be removed due to fees, but the bulk of the asset is in there for good. Knowing that ETHE cannot be taken back and destroyed at this time, the ETH collateralizing it will not be removed from the wallet for the foreseeable future. While it is not fully locked in the sense of say a totally lost key, it is not coming out any time soon. Per their annual statement:
The Trust’s ETH will be transferred out of the ETH Account only in the following circumstances: (i) transferred to pay the Sponsor’s Fee or any Additional Trust Expenses, (ii) distributed in connection with the redemption of Baskets (subject to the Trust’s obtaining regulatory approval from the SEC to operate an ongoing redemption program and the consent of the Sponsor), (iii) sold on an as-needed basis to pay Additional Trust Expenses or (iv) sold on behalf of the Trust in the event the Trust terminates and liquidates its assets or as otherwise required by law or regulation.

Grayscale now owns a huge chunk of both ETH and BTC’s supply… should we be worried about manipulation, a sell off to crash the market crash, a staking cartel?
First, it’s important to remember Grayscale is a lot more akin to an exchange then say an investment firm. Grayscale is working on behalf of its investors to create this product for investor control. Grayscale doesn’t ‘control’ the ETH it holds any more then Coinbase ‘controls’ the ETH in its hot wallet. (Note: There are likely some varying levels of control, but specific to this topic Grayscale cannot simply sell [legally, at least] the ETH by their own decision in the same manner Coinbase wouldn't be able to either.) That said, there shouldn’t be any worry in the short to medium time-frame. As noted above, Grayscale can’t really remove ETH other than for fees or termination of the product. At 2.5% a year, fees are noise in terms of volume. Grayscale seems to be the fastest growing product in the crypto space at the moment and termination of the product seems unlikely. IF redemptions were to happen tomorrow, it’s extremely unlikely we would see a mass exodus out of the product to redeem for ETH. And even if there was incentive to get back to ETH, the premium makes it so that it would be much more cost effective to just sell your ETHE on the secondary market and buy ETH yourself. Remember, any redemption is up to the investors and NOT something Grayscale has direct control over.
Yes, but what about [insert criminal act here]…
Alright, yes. Technically nothing is stopping Grayscale from selling all the ETH / BTC and running off to the Bahamas (Hawaii?). BUT there is no real reason for them to do so. Barry is an extremely public figure and it won’t be easy for him to get away with that. Grayscale’s Bitcoin Trust creates SEC reports weekly / bi-weekly and I’m sure given the sentiment towards crypto is being watched carefully. Plus, Grayscale is making tons of consistent revenue and thus has little to no incentive to give that up for a quick buck.
That’s a lot of ‘happy little feels’ Bob, is there even an independent audit or is this Tether 2.0?
Actually yes, an independent auditor report can be found in their annual reports. It is clearly aimed more towards the financial side and I doubt the auditors are crypto savants, but it is at least one extra set of eyes. Auditors are Friedman LLP – Auditor since 2015. Source: Independent Auditor Report starting on page 116 (of the PDF itself) of the “Grayscale Ethereum Trust Annual Report (2019)” – Located Here As mentioned by user TheCrpytosAndBloods (In Comments Below), a fun fact:
The company’s auditors Friedman LLP were also coincidentally TetheBitfinex’s auditors until They controversially parted ways in 2018 when the Tether controversy was at its height. I am not suggesting for one moment that there is anything shady about DCG - I just find it interesting it’s the same auditor.
“Grayscale sounds kind of lame” / “Not your keys not your crypto!” / “Why is anyone buying this, it sounds like a scam?”
Welp, for starters this honestly is not really a product aimed at the people likely to be reading this post. To each their own, but do remember just because something provides no value to you doesn’t mean it can’t provide value to someone else. That said some of the advertised benefits are as follows:
Access to trading within a tax advantaged retirement account
Institutions can easily and safely get exposure to crypto in a more legal-friendly manner
Ease of use for those who are not very technologically savvy
Ease of access for someone who doesn’t want to set up a Coinbase account
Perceived trust in institutional platforms over something like Coinbase or Kraken
Degen traders who just want access to the volatility ETHE provides that have no interest in crypto beyond that
So for example, I can set up an IRA at a brokerage account that has $0 trading fees. Then I can trade GBTC and ETHE all day without having to worry about tracking my taxes. All with the relative safety something like E-Trade provides over Binance. As for how it benefits the everyday ETH holder? I think the supply lock is a positive. I also think this product exposes the Ethereum ecosystem to people who otherwise wouldn’t know about it.
Why is there a premium? Why is ETHE’s premium so insanely high compared to GBTC’s premium?
There are a handful of theories of why a premium exists at all, some even mentioned in the annual report. The short list is as follows:
ETHE is NOT redeeming shares and as such doesn’t have an effective arbitrage mechanism
ETHE has a 1 year wait to be sold on the secondary market, again negating the ability to effectively arbitrage the premium
People may simply be willing to pay a premium for the benefits stated above.
Why is ETHE’s so much higher the GBTC’s? Again, a few thoughts:
ETHE hasn’t been around as long, so there is less secondary market supply to go around
ETHE was listed at an insanely high premium to begin with
ETHE might simply be more popular at the moment
Could just be sheer stupidity (investors think ETHE is a 1:1 ratio not 1:11)
Are there any other differences between ETHE and GBTC?
I touched on a few of the smaller differences, but one of the more interesting changes is GBTC is now a “SEC reporting company” as of January 2020. Which again goes beyond my scope of knowledge so I won’t comment on it too much… but the net result is GBTC is now putting out weekly / bi-weekly 8-K’s and annual 10-K’s. This means you can track GBTC that much easier at the moment as well as there is an extra layer of validity to the product IMO.
I’m looking for some statistics on ETHE… such as who is buying, how much is bought, etc?
There is a great Q1 2020 report I recommend you give a read that has a lot of cool graphs and data on the product. It’s a little GBTC centric, but there is some ETHE data as well. It can be found here hidden within the 8-K filings.Q1 2020 is the 4/16/2020 8-K filing. For those more into a GAAP style report see the 2019 annual 10-K of the same location.
Is Grayscale only just for BTC and ETH?
No, there are other products as well. In terms of a secondary market product, ETCG is the Ethereum Classic version of ETHE. Fun Fact – ETCG was actually put out to the secondary market first. It also has a 3% fee tied to it where 1% of it goes to some type of ETC development fund. In terms of institutional and accredited investors, there are a few ‘fan favorites’ such as Bitcoin Cash, Litcoin, Stellar, XRP, and Zcash. Something called Horizion (Backed by ZEN I guess? Idk to be honest what that is…). And a diversified Mutual Fund type fund that has a little bit of all of those. None of these products are available on the secondary market.
Are there alternatives to Grayscale?
I know they exist, but I don’t follow them. I’ll leave this as a “to be edited” section and will add as others comment on what they know. Per user Over-analyser (in comments below):
As asked by pegcity - Okay so I was under the impression you can just give them your own ETH and get ETHE, but do you get 11 ETHE per ETH or do you get the market value of ETH in USD worth of ETHE?
I have always understood that the ETHE issued directly through Grayscale is issued without the premium. As in, if I were to trade 1 ETH for ETHE I would get 11, not say only 2 or 3 because the secondary market premium is so high. And if I were paying cash only I would be paying the price to buy 1 ETH to get my 11 ETHE. Per page 39 of their annual statement, it reads as follows:
The Trust will issue Shares to Authorized Participants from time to time, but only in one or more Baskets (with a Basket being a block of 100 Shares). The Trust will not issue fractions of a Basket. The creation (and, should the Trust commence a redemption program, redemption) of Baskets will be made only in exchange for the delivery to the Trust, or the distribution by the Trust, of the number of whole and fractional ETH represented by each Basket being created (or, should the Trust commence a redemption program, redeemed), which is determined by dividing (x) the number of ETH owned by the Trust at 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the trade date of a creation or redemption order, after deducting the number of ETH representing the U.S. dollar value of accrued but unpaid fees and expenses of the Trust (converted using the ETH Index Price at such time, and carried to the eighth decimal place), by (y) the number of Shares outstanding at such time (with the quotient so obtained calculated to one one-hundred-millionth of one ETH (i.e., carried to the eighth decimal place)), and multiplying such quotient by 100 (the “Basket ETH Amount”). All questions as to the calculation of the Basket ETH Amount will be conclusively determined by the Sponsor and will be final and binding on all persons interested in the Trust. The Basket ETH Amount multiplied by the number of Baskets being created or redeemed is the “Total Basket ETH Amount.” The number of ETH represented by a Share will gradually decrease over time as the Trust’s ETH are used to pay the Trust’s expenses. Each Share represented approximately 0.0950 ETH and 0.0974 ETH as of December 31, 2019 and 2018, respectively.
Themis (MIS) Launches Pledge Mining Platform, New Opportunity Occurs to Grow Wealth
With the development of blockchain technology, obtaining data on the chain only is no longer satisfying and how to bridge the real world and the blockchain world has always been the direction of the technological breakthrough. Under this background, Oracle Machine came to our attention. In particular, with the popularity of the DeFi concept, the industry starts to witness a boom of the application of Oracle Machine in financial derivatives, trading platforms, gambling games, and prediction markets. At present, Oracle Machine represented by Themis is developing fast with a good momentum, leading the trend of the development of Oracle Machine and continuing to consolidate the basic technical support for the DeFi revolution. Themis’ mining system has been launched in the market, which is refreshing and appealing (see https://themisoracle.com/#/credit for details on the Themis mining). 90% of MIS, the native token of Themis, will be used for mining output. The entire mining mechanism runs through a distributed oracle protocol, which sets up three roles: data provider, data validator, and arbitration node. Reward and punishment mechanisms are applied to ensure the smooth ecological operation. How does Themis mining work? Is it a new way to become wealthy? What are the characteristics? To answer these questions, we need to analyse the distribution mechanism, mining mechanism, and token value of Themis. With a fairer mining mechanism, small and medium-sized miners can enjoy better benefits One of the core values of blockchain is fairness and justice, and allowing everyone in the network to play a role in the system without permission. However, Bitcoin mining is now monopolized by several mining machine vendors such as Bitmain, leaving little space for other miners to participate. If those old PoW public chains, such as Bitcoin, has formed the head effect in mining, what about those new projects? Let's take Cosmos as an example. Since Binance joined its validator node, it has instantly ranked top with the strong financial strength and user base of the top exchange, making the small and medium nodes hard to participate. After comparison, we can find that the mining mechanism of MIS is very friendly to ordinary users. Assuming that there are 12 mining transactions in a block, the ranking according to the MIS pledged by each transaction would be as follow: https://preview.redd.it/1kfccgps2pg51.png?width=832&format=png&auto=webp&s=bf6c7f614c600826006bc2bf8a6026292c3b328c The pledge ranking is based on the jump ranking weighting algorithm rather than the weighted average of the user pledge amount, which can prevent MIS from being controlled by a small number of people, avoid monopoly, creating a win-win situation in the Themis community. https://preview.redd.it/pme9tcd62pg51.png?width=832&format=png&auto=webp&s=049f899d2a5ee3ce64007d5cc0ae3ed6167c2b3a Compared with other mining projects, Themis has introduced a unique pledge ranking method in the mining design. Users in the best ranking area will get the most benefits, which is a good mechanism guarantee for attracting more users to participate in mining. At the same time, it can lead to the decentralization of data providers, ensuring the decentralization of the oracle system and the positive development of the community. How can miners join in Themis mining? The answer is to become a part of the ecology by playing the role of either data provider, data validator, or arbitration node. The data provider is mainly responsible for providing various types of data, and the data validator verifies and challenges the data offered by the data provider and provides new data. The arbitration node arbitrates the query raised by the data validator and come up with the final result. Both the data providers and validators of Themis need to pledge MIS to obtain the qualifications, and the caller of external data also needs to pay MIS assets when accessing the data of Themis oracles. If the data has been verified as correct, data providers and validators will receive mining rewards, and the more they pledge, the more rewards they will receive. In the mining design of Themis, miners can acquire MIS by providing verifiable random number or offering the price of in-chain assets. Whenever miners call mining contracts, the system will charge no service fee (excluding the service fee of ETH). In addition, if no mining transaction occurs within a certain period of time, the first newly-emerging block containing mining transactions will acquire all the MIS rewards. In this way, miners can be encouraged to continue mining and maintain the ecological stability of Themis. The number of MIS mining for each mining transaction of miners is calculated as follows: First, calculate the number of MIS mining rewards N contained in the block of the packaged mining transaction. If the height difference between the block and the previous block containing the mining transaction is y, then N = y * 20. The MIS mining quantity of this mining transaction is M, then M=Xi/(📷)×N. Among them, X is the ranking of the MIS pledge amount in the block, and those who pledge the same amount of MIS have the same ranking. Few official pre-mining, while 90% belongs to the community Based on the official announcement, the distribution of MIS is: The total amount of MIS is 1 billion, 10% is reserved for early project promotion, the remaining 90% are produced by mining, in which 75% are directly awarded to data providers, 10% to developers, and 5% as reward for arbitration nodes and ecological incentive. The production of mining will be progressively decreased and released with ETH. For some current popular VC-invested projects, institutional holdings hold more than half of blocks and unlock the block every month, which is a huge stress for ordinary pledge users. Many projects also went wrong because institutional investors do not abide by the rules. For MIS, because there is fewer official pre-mining, the selling pressure will be smaller, which is more in line with the value of the blockchain. The release plan of developer and arbitration node and ecological incentive is as follows: https://preview.redd.it/nld8k8gb2pg51.jpg?width=926&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c2435c993cf86b2bf6b0c4d2a1935708734de97 The release plan of data provider incentive is as follows: https://preview.redd.it/kgia5n6d2pg51.jpg?width=982&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ad1bfe7796fdaec58f3caede2f2a2083c0a07724 The MIS awarded per block reduces by 10% in every 4 million blocks, and the reward per block at present is 20 MIS. We can see that the allocation of MIS follows the following principles. First of all, as MIS is the platform certificate of Themis, it is very reasonable to reserve 10% of MIS for early project promotion. Secondly, 90% of MIS is produced through sustainable mining. This proportion can motivate contract users and miners to conduct contract mining, truly implementing the spirit of win-win community and token economy. Finally, among the 90% of MIS, better incentive mechanisms have been adapted, mining reward ratios are subdivided, which can attract more investors to participate in mining. Reasonable mining mechanism highlights the project value of Themis Themis, as a public chain that provides a mechanism to solve the problems in Oracle Machine, has a unique charm in the value of MIS. From the perspective of the number of tokens, the total amount of MIS is 1 billion, and the total mining pool is 900 million. 90% of the tokens are generated by mining, and the mining output gradually decreases its release with the Ethereum block, showing a great potential in its future added value. The earlier you participate in mining, the more profit you can gain. From the perspective of Themis’s ecological design, Themis is committed to the original intention of building a price oracle. The data provider pays on-chain fees and pledges a certain amount of MIS, and determines the income obtained according to the scale of the pledge; the validator can make profit from challenging the data. Also, any smart contract developer or user need to pay the corresponding fee when calling Themis, and this part of the profit will be distributed to the data provider in proportion. Through this design, a logical closed loop is completed to ensure the healthy operation of the entire ecology and achieve the goal of mutual benefit. In Themis, all parties in the ecology can work together to grow more wealth. In all, MIS has a huge potential for future development and arbitrage, and of course, a great profit potential as well. Today, public chains like Themis are not just a technology platform, but also a symbol of future economic operation mode which connect between the blockchain and the real world. Themis, with a fair, justice and open network through mining, is building a strong token ecology, connecting external chain data and the systems, realising data interaction between blockchain and the real world, and more importantly, creating a new mode of token economy.
The first iteration of the block reward scheme was announced in the previous weekly update. An immediate concern raised from the community was that the emission was too aggressive in the initial year and rewards dropped off fast beyond the 5 year mark. Taking Bitcoin’s emission as an example, the emission curve has been updated to target 2% emission after 10 years. !(https://miro.medium.com/max/2384/1*gqBLvJOl2G4n3IHW1rViKg.png) The Block Reward equation is given by the following recurrence equation: g(n+2) = ((R - (g(n+1) + g(n))) / x) / y Which evaluates to: !(https://miro.medium.com/max/1624/1*ttpsRd7HUs2-7hvDGO6elg.png) where: R = Reserve, x = 6 (Arbitrary Emission Factor) y = (seconds per day / seconds per block) / days per year y = (86400 / 5) * 365.2425 The final curve thus has a Day 0 emission of 25%, Year 1 emission of 20% and Year 10 emission of 2%.
The original plan for BEPSwap (prior to the Yggdrasil liquidity breakthrough) was to have it as a separate mainnet before launching the real THORChain in 2020 with cross-chain support. Now THORChain has in-built cross-chain support and a clear roadmap to 99 nodes. This means the mainnet launch will have public, community-run nodes at the start. The community has been fielding many questions about how to run a node, and the mechanics in doing so. Since the THORChain team will not be running any nodes, it is necessary to have a full-rehearsal with the community at launch. As such, the plan is for a public ChaosNet on 03 January 2020. ChaosNet will have the following key differences: * Minimum bond of 100k RUNE. * Maximum of 12 Nodes. * Churn cycle of 1 day. * Maximum stake amount of 600k RUNE total. * 2.7m RUNE Protocol Reserve to emit Bond and Stake rewards. * Hard-coded Ragnorök at 6 weeks. Any member who wishes to join ChaosNet to get accustomed to running a node can do so, and will receive Block Rewards roughly equivalent to mainnet (25%). They will be setting up nodes, churning in, servicing the network and earning rewards. The system will hold up to 600k Rune, at which point it will refund any additional staked amount. The community can stake small amounts of real assets, prepare arbitrage bots, set up telegram alert bots and more. In short, it is a public rehearsal with the entire community across all facets (nodes, stakers, traders) so that everyone will have access to the same information and not unfairly benefit when the real mainnet launches. Additionally, the system will be hard-coded to perform a Ragnorök 6 weeks later, which will refund all the remaining reserve as well as bonded and staked assets. This will go a long way in re-assuring the community that the system can tolerate all levels of risk, including black-swan events, and that funds are safe at all times.
A new feature will be launched that will allow users to use internal arbitrage. This is an asymmetrical withdrawal to Rune, then immediately followed by a asymmetrical stake of Rune in another pool. A trader may want to do this instead of doing transactional arbitrage in order to exploit price differences between two pools the fastest way possible. Instead of an outgoing transaction being processed, followed by another incoming transaction, Rune balances and stakeUnits are swapped internally, being completed inside of a few seconds.
Fee-based Transaction Prioritisation
Currently there is no prioritisation to the order of transactions, all transactions are simply processed in order of time received. In moments of high demand of network resources (such as when there are large arbitrage opportunities and users are racing to exploit them), transactions will queue in the mempool. If the system cannot respond fast enough, then the reason for high demand will persist (the large arbitrage opportunity). The solution is to remove the reason for high demand in the first place, which is the large arbitrage opportunity, at the same time as collecting the maximum revenue for the system. As such, in the checkTx method (which can triage the mempool), transactions will be sorted and ordered in the value of the fee of the swap transaction. Assuming rational actors, the following transactions will then be prioritised over all others: * A transaction from an impatient swapper who is willing to pay a large fee. * A transaction from a trader who is able to arbitrage out a price discrepancy (and still make a gain). This then means the system can collect as much income as possible (good for the stakers) at the same time as prioritising transactions that can arbitrage out large price discrepancies quickly. This then means swaps from transient swappers will experience a market price that accurately matches the reference price at all times.
The team are working on 4 parallel streams of effort. Cross-chain infrastructure has now been merged into a single repo called “THORNode”. * THORChain * Midgard Public API * Threshold Signature Scheme implementation * Front-end Integration for BEPSwap
I built an arbitrage system that finds arbitrage opportunities between cryptocurrency exchanges
It took me about 6 months of coding to get where I am now and I'm letting cryptocurrency try it out for free. This is literally the first time I am posting about it to see how people would react to such a system. Currently it is able to find arbitrage opportunities between Binance, Bittrex, Cryptopia, Bitfinex, YoBit, HitBTC, Kraken and Poloniex with many more to come. It is not like the average arbitrage bots you see mine works by calculating the profit you will make buying on one exchange and selling it on another. It is able to detect which exchanges are doing maintenance on wallets so you dont waste time with false arbitrage opps. It was able to find a 17% arbitrage opp on Game Credits and I was able to make 15% by purchasing it on Bittrex and selling it on Poloniex 2 days ago. It took me about 7 minutes transfer time. I was also able to buy Bitcoin Gold from Binance and transfer it to Bittrex and sell it for a 20% profit which took me around 30 minutes. My system is designed to eliminate trading risk by keeping your money out of the market as much as possibles. The purpose is to detect when there is a large price gap between exchanges and capitalize off of it which means get in and get out as fast a you can. The only risk becomes the time it takes to transfer from one exchange to another but the ERC20 tokens transfer pretty fast so it works well with most digital currencies. Also have to be aware of the volume in relation to how much you money you trade with. I would like to see how many people were able to successfully profit from arbitrage also who would be interested in such a system. Here is an image of how the system displays the arbitrage opps https://ibb.co/iBWafx and the system can be accessed at Arbiswap.com ----------------------------TRY IT OUT--------------------------------------------------- ATTENTION!!! Some hater keeps changing the password so I cannot make a test account anymore so it is best everyone create a free trial account and I will make it so the system can be accessed by everyone here at crytocurrency. It is free to start the trial and will expire in 14 days so make use of it and see if you can find any deals with my system. I suggest you only do ones of 9% or more. Login here http://arbiswap.com/cryptocurrency-arbitrage/ Dont forget to cancel before 2 weeks ends if my system sucks for you. Keep in mind the system works but you have to be on at the right time to find deals and it updates every 15 minutes. Right now I am working on an alert system which will alert you of the most promising arbitrage opps 9% profit or more on high volume exchanges. Thanks for the amazing feedback I am building this for you guys and it will be limited memberships so work with me and I will with you. Update: Thank everyone for the support...Email alerts are now active to subscribed members... it checks exchanges every 5 minutes for possible arbitrage opps and when it finds one you will be notified. Anyone can see past alerts on site but they are delayed 3 hours. Update: here is a medium article I published to try and explain more details about how the system works https://medium.com/@chasarcaulon/presenting-arbiswap-crytocurrency-arbitrage-platform-4dd12b99fd36
What is crypto arbitrage and is it effective? Cryptocurrency arbitrage allows you to earn on the difference in the value of assets. This type of trading came from traditional financial markets and has become widely used by crypto traders.
Types of cryptocurrency arbitrage
There are two main types of crypto arbitrage:
The first and most common way is to buy cryptocurrency on one exchange at a lower price and sell it on another at a higher price. There are many factors to consider in this approach: spread, fees, transaction speed, price movement speed, trend direction and so on. The second method is more complex, but less risky, because all transactions are made on the same exchange, and the work goes faster. A popular scheme is the so-called intra-exchange triangle, based on the difference in the rates of several cryptocurrencies. Two or more cryptocurrencies are involved in the trade. For example, the first bitcoin is bought, then BTC is exchanged for XLM, which is sold for dollars.
Disadvantages of crypto arbitrage
The method is quite difficult for beginners and requires a certain set of skills. It is necessary to carry out complex calculations and take fees into account: both trading and cryptocurrency deposit and withdrawal fees. It is profitable to engage in inter-exchange arbitrage only when the trader has a sufficiently large deposit since the total fee can be up to 200 or more dollars. This increases the risks significantly. When conducting inter-exchange arbitrage with cryptocurrencies such as BTC or ETH, the rate can change significantly due to fairly slow transactions, which, under high load on the network, can hang for several hours.
How effective is crypto arbitrage
Arbitrage can be effective due to high volatility and rapid changes in the exchange rate of cryptocurrencies. But for the same reason, it can lead to losses as the price can quickly level off or become lower at the time of sale. It is more appropriate to use intra-exchange arbitrage. Trade-mate.io service, which allows you to manage assets in a single window, will help you a lot. Currently, three major exchanges can be connected: Binance, Bitmex, and Poloniex. If you decide to use inter-exchange arbitrage, you can track prices and quickly sell on two exchanges at once. For example, open long on Binance and short on Bitmex without withdrawing funds to save time.
I built an arbitrage tool that tells you which exchange to buy from and which to sell with a built in alert system
It took me about 6 months of coding to get where I am now, as of now it is able to find arbitrage opportunities between Binance, Bittrex, Cryptopia, Bitfinex, YoBit, HitBTC, Kraken and Poloniex with many more to come. It is not like the average arbitrage bots you see mine works by calculating the profit you will make buying on one exchange and selling it on another. It is able to detect which exchanges are doing maintenance on wallets so you don't waste time with false arbitrage opps. The best feature is our alert system that checks exchanges every 5 minutes for arbitrage opps and emails our subscribers as they happen. What led me to create it was I kept seeing huge price differences when I was daytrading last year some of the ones I was able to find was a 20% arbitrage opp on Metal and I was able to make 15% by purchasing it on Bittrex and selling it on Binance. It took me about 7 minutes transfer time. I was also able to buy Bitcoin Gold from Binance at least 3 times and transfer it to Bittrex and sell it for a 15- 20% profit each time which took me around 30 minutes. Something else I'd like to mention is that our alert system found the 40% arbitrage opp on BTC-VIA that happened when Binance was hacked a few days ago https://s.nimbus.everhelper.me/share/1533355/bs7dvuubgf83hmgpcnog and notified our susbscribers. So the system works it's a matter of being online at the right time to capitalize of these arbitrage opps that are always occurring. My system is designed to eliminate trading risk by keeping your money out of the market as much as possible. Here is an image of how the system displays the arbitrage opps https://ibb.co/iBWafx and the system can be accessed at Arbiswap.com EDIT:Now includes a Binance Pump detector at no additional cost (get notified of every price jump - no downloading required)
CELT is an ERC20 token that can be bought and sold at its contract. It's created to fund a bot that operates on the COSS exchange. The bot takes the form of being a market maker. It detects how big the void is between buying and selling orders on the orderbook of a pair and decreases it, depending on the reserve it has. It decreases it by putting a buy limit order and a sell limit order within the void. When both these positions get filled the bot realises a small profit. If you want to trade you need a counterparty to trade with. If you don't have a counterparty to trade with, you can't trade, you'll need to trade at a price someone does want to trade at. The CELTbot tries to provide better prices for users to trade at instead of having to trade at a standard big loss due to the lack of standing orders on the orderbook.
Expanding functionallity with arbitrage
Because of the recent partnership with thaodehx where he's doing arbitrage between coss and Binance I decided to ask the CELT holders on reddit if I should add my own huobipro -COSS arbitrage bot into the game using CELT funds. After getting their opinions on this I finally booted it up yesterday with 0.5 ETH of my own and 30 OMG from the CELT wallet. Huobiprohistory is showing 130+ trades have been done since startup. Everybody wins with increased volume and profitable trades. The bot is active on all pairs in common between COSS and huobi.
Last week @aume27 created an improved spreadsheet for me to keep track of the Wallets funds and performance. I decided to actually start keeping decent track of the wallet perfomance in ether equivalent now it has been made easyer to do so and not as time consuming. I've added huobipro's wallet equivalent in bitcoin to todays calculation and will keep doing it that way. It's not there in the previous ones cause it's only been setup since yesterday.
!(https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQ6oLC1Q5bCGbW7U1kc5wcjLq8sbMzjrFTixFjKZjj9cx/image.png) Keep in mind that the first 2 colums are creating a new baseline with the new reporting system. Do not be alarmed that we are down in ethequivalent value, we have been accumulating crypto during this downtrend we'll be back in profit when the limit sell positions on top get filled again. We accumulated all the way on the downtrend and are now back in uptrend, CELTbot works best in ranging markets where people just exchange with the bot and the bot gets more turnover. You can see that in a week time the etherequivalent has been uptrending now. Todays report is a bit off because of the Huobi wallet to BTC conversion, I expect it to flatten out if I keep reporting its contents the same way each day.
If you are buying CELT let me know where you want your funds to be used: - Increasing the orderbooks on coss and improving the spread of pairs - Increase the arbitrage part - If you want your funds to be only used to increase the orderbook of ETH/BTC for this is the heart of our COSS exchange. - Let me decide what's best use of the new funds
If people are willing to fund this and if it is within my botting power to do so, I will be adding other exchanges to our dear CELTbot. First on my mind would be to add Kucoin to the fold as I can imagine a lot of pairs being in common. I would need to check to be sure how many there are. Since Thaodehx already has binance setup I will leave that one up to him as last I heard he was planning to move forward with the funding.
Further I am working on providing a freemium cossbot spinoff through https://accumulationbot.com/ When COSS releases API everybody will have acces to an accumulationbot and will be able to autotrade their coss account and accumulate their favorite crypto's!. I would still encourage everyone to join the alpha cossbot group as people in there will get a free subscription for an amount of time to accumulationbot.com. The site is still under construction and I can't ETA the actual launch of it.
The site owner is a COSS supporter and supporter of the coding effort for COSS, he is offering a 10% discount if you use the discount code SP10 at his store. So if you're looking for crypto related merch make sure to stop by his site to check out https://www.decentralgear.com/
Add other exchanges to arbitrage feature upon specific funding
Keep wallet reporting up to date
Look for anything that could improve CELT
I hope you guys enjoyed this week's monster steemit update. Help me out by upvoting here and spreading the word.
EcomToken: The Ecom Platform Born To Simplify The Operation With Crypto
Global adoption takes its course and continues to expand a new trend shift. In the age of data, privacy, and other Internet-related issues, we are witnessing a progressive crypto boom during 2019 that focuses on simplifying and expanding ecosystem services and applications. In this line of events, the Ecom platform presents version 4.0 of its wallet. For those interested in downloading, it can be found in the App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), and APK File (Android). The wallet is compatible with the storage, reception and sending of contrasted cryptocurrencies and tokens, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Binance token (BNB), 0x (ZRX), Maker (MKR), Basic Attention Token (BAT), Huobi Token (HT) and VeChain (VET). It also has secure, stable tokens (stablecoins) such as True USD (TUSD) and USD coin (USDC). In addition to offering a range of pairs that will grow progressively, the wallet is compatible with cash withdrawals, receipts, and other functions including exchanging with the ECK token quickly. All complicated operations become waiting-free and straightforward for users, thanks to a system managed by artificial intelligence (AI) and EcomToken’s smart contracts. Automated technology for fast order management with BotTrader Through the Ecom wallet, the platform can tokenize all products bought and sold in the system; mainly thanks to the exchange pair in its native ECK token. The ECK/BTC swap pair will provide a good part of the liquidity and will activate the artificial intelligence gear that makes quick exchanges happen. This type of automation guided by smart contracts will feed an entire order network that will make the BotTrader service possible. BotTrader offers an easy way to manage a wide range of orders. From placing a single order to thousands of them; by this, we mean wholesale orders (whether buy orders, sell orders or both). By offering this service, scanning low point purchases on all pre-programmed exchanges are automated. Combined with automatic market scans, BotTrader also scans the upside outlets on those exchanges. When there is a price difference, the opportunity to arbitrage the price appears, and BotTrader performs thousands of trading orders at both ends with the price difference. Therefore, BotTrader not only facilitates maximizing the profit potential for the users but also has liquidity characteristics for the user’s portfolios. Virtual and physical cryptographic card By obtaining a reliable and instantaneous liquidity base, the system will support the payment network planned in the technical documentation. On society, we can see how the cash in bills and coins is beginning to be margined. Smart device wallets and personal bank cards capture a large percentage of the total spend on normal operations. It is for this reason that a system designed to support thousands of operations needs simplification in the use of stored funds. The ecosystem is designed to be able to withdraw funds from the portfolio at any time. Either through withdrawals or payments. When it comes to payments, Ecom’s virtual and physical cryptographic card offers the versatility and convenience of everyday life. Linked to its platform account, it provides the comforts of traditional systems; so the adoption barrier seems to fade over time. The distribution and technology of the ECK native token The native token of the project is the ECK token, being a utility type token. The platform focuses on trade and therefore will not own a blockchain itself, has been chosen Ethereum, being the most adopted for platforms of its kind. As a utility token under the ERC20 standard, it offers general uses to release every one of the platform’s functions. For a fair and equitable distribution, a token acquisition plan and percentages assigned to the token sale, reserve, reference program, core team, partners, and advisors have been devised. The total market offer is 101 million ECK tokens distributed based on the following proportions: · Tokens are offering — 38%. · Referral Program — 25 · Reserve — 22%. · Team, partners, advisors — 15 Allocation of the funds collected in the sale of the token An internal fund allocation plan accompanies the distribution of the tokens described above. This plan is posted both on the website and in the corresponding technical documentation. We proceed to break it down: · Technological development 15%. Technology, products for the platform, new products, and updates of ecosystem characteristics. · Commercial development 15%. This is one of the pillars of the project, even more so in the newly created company phase. It is orienting to implement a brand image recognized, respectable, modern, and backed by an active user base and constituting business development by building value-added joint ventures with industry leaders. · Marketing 10%. Global promotion and orientation of the EcomToken ecosystem. It also ensures visibility in the sector. · Operations 40%. Active financing of the necessary operations and legal bases, as well as advice, are required to start. The planned robust infrastructure will lay the groundwork for a stable future for the ecosystem in the medium and long term. This ranges from liquidity for automated operations to the maintenance of excellent performance, legal assistance, and customer support. · Ecosystem development 20%. The secured funds guarantee the complete development of the Ecosystem offer the peace of mind of remaining outside the funds allocated for liquidity and other diverse goals. Therefore, developers and ancillary teams will be able to stay focused on the development and implementation of a seamless global ecosystem. Can the native ECK token be mined? The issue model of the ECK token is not linked to PoW mining. Instead, Token Holders will be encouraged to maintain them through a daily interest. Platform users can deposit ECK tokens into EcomToken’s portfolio to enjoy the resulting calculated interest regularly. This model promotes the adoption of the token by withdrawing it from the markets to the user’s portfolios. This and other initiatives seek to establish a strong base of users and early holders. To calculate the daily interest to be received, the value of the conversion to US dollars (USD) will be taken as a reference; that is, the ECK/USD pair will be calculated. According to this exchange rate, the daily interest to be received will be calculated. Note that the reference source for obtaining the price will be taken from the metrics publicly exposed in Coinmarketcap.com. Cryptocurrency Terms And Definitions - Common Crypto Words To Know
The blockchain community is not left out when it comes to the use of jargon and phrases. The use of words that look strange to those who are not involved in crypto is totally inevitable. It’s definitely going to be difficult for anyone not in this space to understand words like “ERC20, ICO or gas. So in order to help such people out, we have made a list of the most common cryptocurrency terms and definitions. Please sit back and enjoy your ride. Cryptocurrency Terms And Definitions One can categorize these terms into various parts. First of all, we will deal with general cryptocurrency terms and definitions. Blockchain Blockchains are distributed ledgers which are secured by cryptography. Everyone has access to read the information on every blockchain which means they are essentially public databases but the data update can only be done by the data owners. In the case of blockchains, data doesn’t remain on a single centralized server, they are copied across hundreds of thousands of computers worldwide. Projects such as Ethereum, Vechain, EOS etc. fall under this class of technology. Mining: The means of trying to ‘solve’ the next available block. One needs huge amounts of computer processing power to carry this out effectively. There is always a reward for doing this. Mining rig: A specially designed computer that processes proof-of-work blockchains such as Ethereum. They consist of multiple high-end graphic processors (GPUs) so as to maximize their processing power. Node: This is a computer that has a copy of the blockchain and is working to keep it in a good shape. PoW: The full meaning of this is Proof-of-work. The Ethereum network currently makes use of this algorithm. PoS: Its full meaning is Proof-of-stake. It is the proposed future algorithm for Ethereum. Those that own ETH will be able to lock up all or a portion of their ether for a given amount of time in order to ‘vote’ and generate network consensus instead of mining in its current form. Stakeholders will get rewards in form of ETH by doing so. Fork: This takes places when a certain blockchain splits into two different chains. This usually happens in the crypto space when new ‘governance rules’ are infused into the blockchain’s code. Software wallet: A crypto-currency storage that exists purely on a computer as software files. You can generate these kinds of wallets for free from diverse sources. MyEtherWallet (MEW) is one of the most popular sources around. Hardware wallet: A device that one can securely keep cryptocurrency. People often say that these wallets are the most secure way to store cryptocurrency. Examples of the most common hardware wallet models around are Ledger Nano S and Trezor. Cold storage: This is a way of moving your cryptocurrency from an online wallet to an offline one, as a means of safekeeping them from hack. There are a lot of ways to carry this out. Some methods that are commonly used include: · Using a hardware wallet to store your cryptocurrency. · By printing out the QR code of a software wallet and keeping it somewhere which is safe. · You can also move the files of a software wallet onto an external storage device such as USB drive and keeping it somewhere safe. Trading Related Cryptocurrency Terms And Definitions Exchange: These are websites where people trade (buy and sell) their cryptocurrencies. Some of the popular crypto exchanges we have around include Binance, Poloniex, Bittrex etc. Market order / market buy / market sell: A sale or purchase which is made on an exchange at the current price. A market buy acquires the cheapest Bitcoin available on the order book while a market sell fills up the most high-priced buy order on the books. Limit order / limit buy / limit sell: These are orders which are placed by traders to buy or sell a cryptocurrency when the price reaches a certain amount. They are pretty much like ‘for-sale’ signs you see on goods. Sell wall / buy wall: Cryptocurrency traders are able to see the current limit buy and sell points using a depth chart. The chart’s graphical representation is very much like a wall. FIAT: Refer to a government-issued currency. An example is the US dollar. Whale: A person who owns huge amounts of cryptocurrency. Margin trading: This is an act of increasing the intensity of a trade by using your existing coins. It is very risky for an inexperienced trader to partake in this. Stay safe!! Going long: This is a margin trade that gives profit if the price goes up. Going short: It is a margin trade that gives profit if the price goes down. Bullish: Being optimistic that the price of cryptocurrency is going to increase. Bearish: This is an expectation that the price of cryptocurrency is going to decrease. ATH: This simply means All-Time-High. This is the highest point that has been reached by a particular coin or token. Take for instance, Bitcoin’s ATH is about $20,000 and this was achieved around December 2017 and January 2018. Altcoin: A word used to qualify other cryptocurrencies which is not Bitcoin. Examples of altcoins are Ripple, NEO, EOS, Vechain, Electroneum etc. Tokens: These are ‘currency’ of projects which are hosted on the ethereum network. They raise money by issuing their own tokens to the general public. Tokens have a significant use in the project's ecosystem. Examples of tokens are Enjin Coin (ENJ), Zilliqa (ZIL), OmiseGO (OMG), Augur (REP) etc. ICO: The full meaning is Initial Coin Offering. This is synonymous to an IPO in the non-crypto world. Startups give out their own token in exchange for Bitcoin or ether. Shilling / pumping: An act of advertising another cryptocurrency. It is mostly done in a way that tricks as many people as possible into believing that a coin or token will get to a higher price in the future. Market Cap: This is the total value of a cryptocurrency. To calculate this, one has to multiply the total supply of coins by the current market price. You can get a run-down of several cryptocurrency projects on Coinmarketcap. Stable coin: This is a cryptocurrency which has an extremely low volatility. You can use a stable coin to trade against the overall crypto market. Arbitrage: A situation where a trader takes advantage of a difference in the price of the same coin / token on two different exchanges. FOMO: Simply means Fear Of Missing Out. That overwhelming feeling that one needs to get on board when there is a massive rise in the price of a commodity. This is also applicable in the crypto space. FUD: Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt. It is a baseless negativity which is spread intentionally by someone or a group of people who want the price of cryptocurrency to decrease. FUDster: A person who spreads FUD. Pump And Dump: This happens when an altcoin gets a ton of attention, leading to a massive increase in price, and likewise followed by a big price crash of that altcoin. ROI: Return on Investment. The percentage profit a trader makes on an initial investment (i.e. A 100% ROI simply indicates that a trader doubled his money). TA: Trend Analysis or Technical Analysis. A way of examining current coin charts so as to make predictions for the next market movement. Next, we will be moving on to crytocurrency terms and definitions that are ethereum related. Dapp: Decentralized Application. It is an application that uses a decentralized peer-to-peer network like Ethereum smart contract as its back-end code. Bagholder: A person who still holds on to a particular altcoin despite having a pump and dump crash. Smart contract: This is a code that is deployed onto the Ethereum blockchain, it often helps with the direct interaction of how money flows from one point to another. The Flippening: A future event showing the capacity of Ethereum’s market cap (or some other cryptocurrency) surpassing Bitcoin’s market cap, making Ethereum the most ‘valuable’ crypto-currency. Gas: It is a measurement of the amount of processing needed by the ethereum network to execute a transaction. More complex transactions like deploying a smart contract onto the network requires more gas than sending ether from one wallet to another which is obviously a simpler operation. Gas price: This is the amount of ether an initiator of a transaction is willing to spend for each gas unit on a transaction. The higher the gas price, then the faster the processing of the transaction. Wei: It is the smallest denomination of ether. Gwei: This is a denomination of ether (ETH). Gwei is the unit for measuring gas prices. 1 Ether = 1,000,000,000 Gwei (109). MEW: MyEtherWallet is a site where users can generate ethereum wallets for free. We also have a handful of cryptocurrency terms and definitions that are memes. See some of them below; Hodl: People use this word when signifying that a person is keeping his coins / tokens for a long period of time. A couple of years back, someone on a Bitcoin forum made a post with a typo HODL in place of HOLD. Ever since then, this term has become one of the most popularly used term in crypto. Mooning: In crypto, this term comes to play when the price of cryptocurrencies move up astronomically. Lambo: This is highly synonymous with crypto. You can't leave out this word when discussing about cryptocurrency terms and definitions. This is the car we’re all goona buy when crypto makes us rich. This is gentlemen: People use this phrase when pointing out positive things that are currently taking place in the cryptosphere. Now that you are conversant with some of the commonly used cryptocurrency terms and definitions, you can now go out there and showcase your new crypto vocabulary to the world.
